abstract opening sentences from a single issue of Nature Subject

  • Mechanisms facilitating A are incompletely understood.
  • The characteristics of B are not fully defined.
  • The molecular basis of C remains vague.
  • The mechanisms responsible for D remain enigmatic.
  • The influence of E1 on E2 remains uncertain.

Someone should create an opening-sentence-o-matic poker machine. I would include "elucidated" as one of the final word options.

translation?

We really don't know that much.

I find it a comforting thought when research is going so well...
The world is really complicated, so it's not surprising [insert relevant experiment] doesn't make sense.

It makes me feel better than the alternative...my experiments suck

I'm happy with my self-delusions :O)

This is too funny!

Opening sentences are hard for me.

I like enigmatic myself... of course, I'm in philosophy and we tend to start with enigmatic and become even more opaque.
