random bullets o' crap
- Apparently Thanksgiving is next week, and I have no plans. Since I'm not American, I'm not too bothered, except that all the Americans will ask me what I did, and I'm pretty sure "sat around reading" is not an acceptable answer (I've already had a non-American express concern about my lack of plans). I'm not sure if I care or not. I could possibly hang out with some fellow C'landians, but that would involve inviting myself over (although technically I was invited a while ago) as well as dealing with issues surrounding being the only vegetarian, both things that make me uncomfortable. If I make myself pumpkin pie to eat while I sit around reading, will that do?
- Christmas isn't so far away either, with the only difference being that I might actually feel sad about having no plans.
- There was a guy on the bus today who appeared to have painted on hair. There were a few strands of actual hair, glued down with orangey-brown gunk, and the rest of his scalp (with nice, neat edges) was a similar, unnatural shade.
- I was reading while walking to the bus this morning (as I usually do) and half tripped over something on the footpath. I wouldn't always bother to look at what it was, since I'm perfectly capable of tripping over invisible cracks in the concrete, but I did this time. It was a dead squirrel.
- I'm not having much trouble yet with the NaBloPoMo commitment, but the photos are becoming a burden. Here's yesterday's lame, last-minute effort (it's still a novelty to actually see holiday card motifs in real life):
- Today's (the view from my lab window) is slightly better:

TOTALLY! yum. :)
Wanna come here? I don't have plans either. I was just gonna gorge on mashed potatoes (yum) and watch movies.
Oh, yeah. Sitting around reading is perfectly acceptable. People who decide to pity you because you didn't have somewhere to go are being totally obtuse: non-Americans don't celebrate the damn holiday.
Of course, if you want to eat pumpkin pie while you're doing it, I say go for it! (Although I'd prefer apple -- which is just as traditional [insert smiley].)
Shrinky, that sounds like an excellent plan!
I also realised that sitting around reading isn't really an acceptable answer for ordinary time off, anyway. I should really do something else with my time occasionally.
Love lab window view photo. Looks like a painting.
Sitting around reading isn't an acceptable answer to what I do in my free time? My entire family is doomed.
Just tell people you ate a lot a watched a bunch of football. They'll nod knowingly and move along. (And heck, I read in front of the TV, so if you can do that, you're totally covered.)
