step shuffle hop

Did I mention I'm taking a tap dance class? I originally signed up for the introductory class, but then it got cancelled. I was so disappointed I thought I should try the level 2 class, even though I hadn't done tap in 13 years (and I didn't take actual tap lessons then, just ballet, but they let everyone dance everything in the end of year concert). I figured they wouldn't enforce prerequisites for a community education class.

I'm glad I didn't let my lack of previous lessons stop me, because it's so much fun! For some reason I'm not bothered by the fact that I suck (possibly because there's no audience and I don't suck badly enough for the other people in the class to notice, because they're all concentrating on themselves), which is nice. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did when I was in high school, probably for that reason. I was expecting to be a lot worse at it. It's kind of amazing how long kinetic memory lasts (something I've also appreciated while attempting to play piano).

I had to go back to lab to finish something after the class tonight and while I was waiting for the machine, I was kind of practising the routine we learnt a bit, because the lab was deserted. Then as I left I noticed the sign saying they'd just installed security cameras...

Oh, I took tap in high school too and liked it a lot. I think because it lets you dance without being all "expressive." (The quotes indicating the kind of abstract modern dance that is bizarrely a category on So You Think You Can Dance.)

Glad the tap dancing is going well! And I love that you're practicing for the security cameras... :)
