I'm not an idiot

I know I'm not stupid. I am smart. Very smart, even. So why do I not believe that translates into being able to do anything useful? Many people who are objectively less intelligent than me have rewarding, successful careers, so why can't I?

I'll hit publish now before I start listing the reasons why not...

Yes, there are so many rewarding careers at which you can be successful. I hope you find the one that will make you the happiest.

I do the same thing with pretty. There are women who are less attractive, meaner and less talented than I believe myself to be, yet there's some X factor that means I must end up alone.

You are very smart. You will be very successful. We both just need to figure out how to stop sabotaging that inherent capability. If I knew how, my dear, I'd tell you. But I do know you can do it.

Thanks, B*

Katie, I would say you just haven't found someone who appreciates you yet. I'd blame my lack of success as a grad student on myself, but maybe I should just look at it as not a good fit. I hope we can both figure it out, anyway.

I definitely feel similarly.

Come to chicago so we can see Coraline together. I'm dying to see it.
